A crash involving a motorcycle and a white Mercedes near Santa Barbara Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway is raising concerns among local residents about traffic safety in the area.
The accident happened just after 3 p.m. near the Publix parking lot. Witnesses say the motorcycle was heavily damaged, with debris scattered across the road. The Mercedes had severe front-end damage and deployed airbags.
Regina Farinola, who lives nearby, said crashes in the area are becoming far too common, “It’s really bad. I see this daily.”
She was walking to the store when she came upon the crash scene. Farinola and other neighbors believe speeding and distracted driving are major factors, especially with the increasing number of new residents and developments in Cape Coral.
The impact was reportedly so loud it was heard from inside nearby apartment buildings. The crash shut down two westbound lanes of Cape Coral Parkway for several hours while police investigated.
The driver of the Mercedes had minor injuries. The motorcyclist was reportedly wearing a helmet and was conscious when EMS arrived. Their current condition is still unknown.
Cape Coral Police are continuing to investigate what caused the crash.
