Major changes are coming to East Lee County, but it's all for the better for commuters.
Starting Monday, Phase 2 of the roundabout construction along Buckingham Road and Gunnery Road begins.
This work means Buckingham Road will be closed from Gunnery Road to Sunset Road.
If you're heading south on Buckingham, you'll need to detour through Gunnery, take a right on Sunset, and then reconnect with Buckingham.
Northbound traffic will take Sunset Road to Gunnery, and loop back up.
New temporary traffic lights are up at Buckingham and Sunset, and Gunnery and Sunset to help with the flow.
Sidewalks will also remain closed during this phase.
Lee County says this roundabout is being built to reduce delays, improve safety, and keep traffic moving.
Crews will work during the week from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Work is expected to wrap up by spring 2026.
