A man found guilty of fatally stabbing a 15-year-old inside his Port Charlotte home will appear in court to receive his sentencing.
On Tuesday, Judge Lisa Porter will decide the fate of Ryan Cole, who was responsible for the brutal killing of Khyler Edmund, who died saving his 5-year-old sister after Cole had broken into their home in 2019.
Edman and his sister were home alone while their mother, Jessica English, was at work, when Cole broke into the family's home. English learned of the law enforcement presence in her neighborhood through a Facebook post and rushed home to a devastating scene.
"I went outside to run because there was an officer's car across the street," said English. "I yelled, 'Please help! Someone just killed my son.'"
In May, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and recommended the death penalty.
Cole will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. to receive his sentencing—life in prison or the death penalty.
