Heavy rains and clogged drains are causing a headache for residents in Babcock Ranch.
Every time it rains, the streets flood, making it difficult and even dangerous for people to get out.
WINK News was on the scene in Babcock Ranch to assess the current situation. The streets were mostly clear on Thursday, except for some leftover mulch washed out during the recent downpour. However, drains remain covered by mulch, posing a potential issue for future rains.
Heavy rain earlier in the week left roads and driveways looking more like a shallow lake.
Residents say that mulch and pine straw from their landscaping flow onto the drains, causing blockages.
"We've always had problems with runoff and pine straw and mulch blocking the drainages so when we get storms like yesterday's it blocks the drainages," said Christine Ostrosk, a resident. "There were several [people] actually even on this street going out with rakes and shovels trying to clear off the drains to get the water running more."
Residents are eager for any assistance to help manage the persistent problem.
Babcock Ranch officials plan to release a statement soon with solutions to the flooding and drainage issues.
