A house fire in Lehigh Acres has sent two children to the hospital for burns to their lower bodies.

The American Red Cross Disaster Action Team assisted nine people after a home fire early Friday morning on Hightower Avenue South in Lehigh Acres.

The fire affected three adults and six children.

WINK News contacted the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Lehigh Acres Fire Control & Rescue District regarding injuries.

First responders said that two juveniles withing the home sustained burns to their lower extremities.

The two children were transported to a local hospital for treatment. It remains unclear if they have been discharged or are still receiving treatment.

The team provided emergency aid, including financial assistance and health services, to those impacted. They also offered emotional support and information to help the families start their recovery process.

The Red Cross emphasized that their disaster assistance is free, made possible by donations. The Disaster Action Team remains ready to respond to emergencies around the clock throughout the year.
