Cape Coral's new food truck park draws crowds with unique dining options

Slipaway Park in Cape Coral offers more than beautiful views. The park is now home to a unique food truck experience.

"Since we announced that we were looking for food truck partners, I've had about 190 applications and counting, and I vetted," said John Torres, general manager of Slipaway.

Chop It Up, a food truck that began as a college dream between two friends, is one of the new additions. Initially a favorite at JetBlue Park during spring training, the car found a new home at Slipaway Park.

"It's just been so fun. We're just so happy to be open," said Corrina Hohl, a vendor at Chop It Up. "We love connecting with the boaters and their families. Everyone's still learning about it, so they're all excited, and it's just been awesome serving people because that's what we love to do."

The park features a rotating lineup of food vendors operating under special zoning and safety guidelines designed for permanent mobile food courts—a new concept for the area.

"Well, you were seeing in the cape a lot of mobile trucks that weren't mobile," said Torres. "They were staying there, set there, and the city was just trying to regulate it."

Customers are enjoying the new addition to the city.

"What's not to like? Boat dock, space, plenty of it for free. Great atmosphere, music. It's got everything you need," said Don Landers, a Slipaway customer.

Despite being open for only a week, Slipaway is already attracting interest from Cape Coral residents who are eager to see how this new food truck concept unfolds.
