Construction on Cape Coral's Embers Lakes apartments leaves muddy views

Construction on a new 1,300-unit apartment complex in Northwest Cape Coral, known as the Embers Lakes Apartments, is finally underway.

The project has been in development since 2021 and is located off Embers Parkway, just west of Nelson Road.

At a recent WINK Listens event, Greg Hoyle, who lives near the new complex expressed concerns about the sudden halt in construction.

"All of a sudden, over the last three weeks, everything stopped. There's nothing going on back there," said Hoyle.

Hoyle said what once was a backyard oasis has now been turned into leveled dirt as crews cleared the land for construction.

"Who's gonna walk into our house and look back there and say, ‘Oh, this is beautiful.’ Not now," said Hoyle.

WINK News reached out to Reynolds Asset Management, the developer behind the project. The managing partner explained that they are waiting on construction loans, which could take some time to process.

This delay has left residents like Hoyle with a less-than-ideal view.

"Everybody that lives around this lake now has to look at this mess back there for who knows how long. So basically destroyed our property values," said Hoyle.

Reynolds Asset Management could not provide a timeline for the project's completion, but they mentioned that construction should resume in a few months.

For residents wanting to stay updated on the project's progress, the city has provided a Citizen Self-Service Portal to check the status of permits and inspections.

The next WINK Listens event is scheduled for Aug. 27 at the YMCA North Campus in Collier County from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
