A violent attack in Golden Gate has left residents shaken. A manhunt is underway for the individual who stabbed a 63-year-old woman in her home.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning on 24th Avenue Southwest near Coronado Parkway when a burglar broke in through a window.
The woman is expected to recover. WINK News reporters observed someone believed to be the victim returning from the hospital. Residents expressed fear due to the violent nature of the attack and the fact that the suspect remains at large.
The attacker stabbed the woman in the neck while she was asleep. The Collier County Sheriff's Office reported that the assailant entered through the bathroom window, leaving footprints in the dirt. Neighbors are hopeful the suspect will be caught soon.
"That was scary because I saw that they broke in so they could have broken into anywhere. I don't know if it was on purpose," said Karen, a neighbor. "I hope they like find him because it's scary having someone on the loose like that."
Authorities have not released a description of the attacker. Efforts are ongoing to gather more information from the sheriff's office.
