Two properties in Port Charlotte have become a sore sight for residents since Hurricane Ian, and neighbors are calling for action.
One homeowner contacted WINK News after watching a recent WINK Listens story about a similar issue in Cape Coral, hoping to bring attention to the problem.
Renee Savage, who lives in Port Charlotte, said, "It definitely is an eyesore."
Residents of Harris Avenue are frustrated by the prolonged poor condition of these properties and are eager to see them cleaned up or moved along.
"It is disappointing. It is hard to see that as you drive by, you walk by, and you're like, why is this this way," said Savage.
WINK News contacted Charlotte County officials to find out what steps are being taken to address these properties.
The county indicated that one of the sites has an active residential single-family permit and that they cannot expedite the building process. However, there are no permits on file for the other site, which means a code case could be initiated against the owner.
Savage, who lives behind one of the unfinished homes, shared her observations post-Hurricane Ian: "I mean, there were so many people running around trying to repair other things in this area because of Ian that I think the workforce just was pulled too thin, and that was just left behind."
She also noted that this issue isn't isolated to her area. "We have four in this general area, and I have a friend who lives in North Port, and she told me just the other day that she has three in her street and that the weeds are up above her waist. So it does seem to be like a trend," said Savage.
Charlotte County officials advised that residents must initiate a code case by submitting their concerns and the addresses where the violations are occurring.
