Mark Hansen achieved a golfer's dream with not just one, but two holes in one during the same round at The Plantation Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers. This remarkable feat took place on Labor Day during the club's annual scramble.
"Having never had one, you're always waiting for it or hoping for it I guess," said Hansen. "The first one your heart just races. It's amazing."
Hansen's first hole in one came on the 14th hole, a par 3, 85 yards out.
"I made a comment to one of my playing partners. I'm not going to hit. It's a scramble we got our birdie let's move on," said Hansen. "Gary replies to me you have to hit this. You might get a hole in one. It landed just past the cup with the slope and spin and we watched it drop in the hole. And from then on, the elation just took over."
The excitement continued as Hansen finished his day on the ninth hole, another par 3, 145 yards out.
"We only had three balls. We were short one more. We thought I possibly sailed it long and out of play," said Hansen. "As Bob checked the cup, all he could mutter was its in the hole. And from then, the excitement on 14th was double or tripled the excitement on 9. It was a walk off hole in one for us for the tournament and we just erupted. So much so that the folks on one could hear us."
The odds of hitting two holes in one in the same round are 1 in 67 million.
"I think it's one percent skill and 99 percent luck," said Hansen.
For Hansen, the joy of reaching down for his ball after hitting an ace, not once but twice, was unparalleled.
"The smile on your face I think is just ear to ear. And if it goes beyond it does," said Hansen.
This was a round Hansen won't forget.
