Under the Friday night lights at Canterbury, senior night became an emotional and memorable event. The Canterbury Cougars started strong against Marco Island Academy, leading 15-0 at halftime with a touchdown and a pick-six.

"This is the night that we play for them," said Vince Camarca, Canterbury's head coach. "They do a lot for the Canterbury community, out in the community."

For senior tight end and long snapper Carter Munson, the night meant more than just the score.

"I played football when I was younger, but I've always grown up playing lacrosse, and that's actually how I got into this school," said Munson.

Coach Vince Camarca convinced Munson to return to football during his sophomore year, reigniting his passion for the sport. Munson is now hearing from college programs in Texas, Arkansas, and South Dakota as he looks to continue his football journey.

"Canterbury has been great," Munson said. "I'm so blessed that I have people in my circle like that that mean the world to me."

Among those people is Sarah Reiersgord, Munson's elementary school teacher from Minnesota, who surprised him before kickoff.

"I always had a soft spot for him, and we've stayed in touch," said Reiersgord. "He has a big heart. He has a heart of gold, and I think he would drop anything and do anything for anybody."

Munson proved that on the field, scoring a touchdown in the first quarter.

No matter the outcome, Canterbury’s senior night marks the end of an era for these players, and the start of what’s next.
