A deadly shooting in Lehigh Acres is under investigation as a murder-suicide.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office found three people dead on Calhoun Street East. Authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
Residents of the neighborhood described it as typically quiet and peaceful. Joaquin Matias Hernandez said, "It’s peaceful. We’re in one of the places in Lehigh where there isn’t a lot of traffic, not a lot of flow. So, you know, definitely quiet."
The tragic incident unfolded on Monday evening when deputies responded to the 800 block of East Calhoun Street. Hernandez was surprised by the heavy presence of ambulances and police. "When I saw all the ambulances and police down there, I was like, this, I hear, I hear almost every unit about arriving there. It was just, I was like, wow, there has to be something going on, something huge," he said.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit confirmed the incident was a murder-suicide. A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her disbelief. "I've seen them outside before. We would go on walks with a family," she said. "It's disturbing. It's like, I can't even believe it, like, around our neighborhood, wow."
Justin Clevenger, another neighbor, recounted what he witnessed that evening. "We went out back and saw the flashing lights. There weren’t too many people out in the neighborhood. They had drones up searching," he said. Clevenger expressed his sympathy for the affected family, saying, "My thoughts go out to the family, and just keep them in their thoughts and prayers."
The Lee County Sheriff's Office stated that detectives are continuing to work on the case.
