The Cape Coral community is mourning the loss of three residents who died in a tragic boat crash on Saturday. Rebecca Knight, Craig Millett, and Brenna Millett were the victims of the accident which took place near the Cape Coral Yacht Club, leaving a significant impact on the local community and beyond.

WINK News reporter Amy Galo visited the Millett's home and spoke with their niece, who shared that the family is not ready to speak about the loss. The tragedy is resonating not only in Southwest Florida but also in Maine, where the Milletts and Knight had strong ties.

Simon Tusha, a friend who performed CPR on Brenna Millett after witnessing the crash on a nearby boat, reflected on the couple's vibrant presence.

"They were always smiling. They're from Maine, you know? Craig's heart was in Cape Coral. He never wanted to go back to Maine," said Tusha.

Without a doubt, the Millets made the southwest Florida boating community their own.

"It's a great loss for all of us. They're kind of the glue, you know, because when you have those people are just that, that great. The people who are just, you gravitate to them. You know?" said Tusha.

The Fort Myers Offshore Club Board of Directors shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, sending prayers for Neal Kirby, a board member of the club, and expressing condolences for the loss of Rebecca, Craig, and Brenna.

"Their passing has left a profound void in our community, and we extend our deepest condolences to their families, loved ones, and everyone whose lives they touched," the board said in their statement.

The statement continues, "Craig, Brenna, and Rebecca were known not only for their passion for life on the water but for the kindness, warmth, and friendship they brought to every event, every dock, and every gathering. They were part of the heart of FMO, and their loss is felt deeply by us all."

The trio is also being remembered by Family Initiative, a local nonprofit organization, which described them as "fierce advocates and deeply passionate champions of Family Initiative and the autism community."

Family Initiative's full statement, which was posted to Facebook, goes on to say; "Rebecca’s infectious laugh and steadfast determination, Brenna’s warm smile and kind, encouraging words that lifted us through every event meeting, and Craig’s boundless generosity and immense heart, especially for our guy Kolby, touched us in ways words can barely capture."

Stuff-A-Bagel, a local business, also shared a touching tribute on Facebook, recalling Rebecca Knight's long-standing contributions.

"For 15 to 20 years, Rebecca Knight was the friendly, loving, and giving voice behind the phone for our family — a magic maker behind the scenes," they said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continues to investigate the tragic crash. WINK News will provide updates as they become available.
