818-acre prescribed burn begins in Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County

The Florida Forest Service has scheduled an 818-acre prescribed burn to begin in Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County.

Starting Wednesday, Collier County residents may see smoke east of Naples and south of Interstate 75. The Florida Forest Service advises motorists and residents in the area to exercise caution.

Forest Service personnel will be positioned in Picayune Strand State Forest to monitor the burn.

According to the Florida Forest Service, a prescribed burn is a form of ecological management for wildlife habitat and timber management.
