Arrest made in 2012 Collier County homicide cold case

Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk and State Attorney Amira Fox provided an update on a 2012 cold case homicide investigation.

The news conference held on Friday began with Rambosk saying that new DNA technology aided the sheriff’s office in solving this homicide case.

In partnership with the state attorney’s office, both Rambosk and Fox were able to announce the arrest of Julie Krinsky, 53. Krinsky was taken into custody on Thursday in Beverly Hills, Florida, where she now lives, and was charged with second-degree murder.

According to the sheriff, on August 1, 2012, Joseph Godcharles, 48, was found stabbed to death inside his apartment at the Key Royal Villas community off Immokalee Road. His son was the first person to discover him.

It was noted that Godcharles’s son noticed that the home was unsecure and called law enforcement.

No signs of forced entry were reported, which, according to deputies, was an indicator that Godcharles and his killer likely knew each other.

“This arrest is the direct result of years of relentless work by CCSO detectives and Forensics Services Bureau members working hand-in-hand with prosecutors from the State Attorney’s Cold Case Unit. I want to thank everyone involved for the thousands and thousands of hours they invested in this case,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “I also want to thank State Attorney Amira Fox for her commitment to providing victims and their families with a voice in the criminal justice system.”

The previously mentioned advances in DNA technology played a pivotal role in identifying Krinsky as the person responsible for Godcharles’ death. Rambosk said that Krinsky and Godcharles were longtime friends who had also been in a romantic relationship.

Collier County deputies issued an arrest warrant for Krinsky, who was taken into custody and is awaiting extradition to Collier County to stand trial.
