Cape Coral resident seeks apology after driver speeds through driveway

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Vince Macias was shocked when a driver sped through his driveway and yard on Southwest 23rd Street in Cape Coral, leaving behind tire marks and truck debris.

"There's no doubt that if anybody was struck by this vehicle, they would have been severely disabled and/or dead," Macias said.

Macias recounted his disbelief upon reviewing security camera footage, saying, "And when I zoomed into the camera, I mean, it was just, you got to be kidding me."

The driver, with one hand on the wheel, sped through the neighborhood, leaving behind a tire serial number and zooming through a driveway capable of holding up to nine cars. Despite the potential for disaster, the incident ended without injury or damage.

"So, this ended in the best possible way. However, it should have never happened," Macias said, expressing relief that none of his children, including his youngest daughter, Ava, who often rides her scooter around the area, were present during the incident.

"What I, what I would like is, frankly, an apology. Not to me, but to my family, because he put them in unnecessary harm," Macias said, noting that his son had left just 10 minutes before the driver sped through.

Macias emphasized the danger posed by the driver's actions, given the number of residents, children riding bikes, and visiting families in the area, calling the situation unacceptable.

"Was he being reckless? Was he not paying attention? Was he distracted? What was going on to cause the situation?" Macias wondered.

Cape Coral police informed Macias that since there was no damage and no one was hurt, there was little they could do. Macias remains puzzled about why the truck drove by his home and whether an apology will ever be forthcoming.
