Child falls from moving car on Veterans Blvd in Charlotte County

A child fell out of a moving vehicle in Charlotte County at Veterans Boulevard and Atwater Street on Sunday, according to Charlotte County Fire & EMS.

The circumstances of the fall are currently under investigation.

Charlotte County Fire responded to the scene at 2:22 p.m. The child was airlifted to All Children's Hospital.

A witness, Mike Patel, who works at the Kangaroo Mart, saw the event unfold.

"I saw the car, like they stopped right in the middle of the road, you know. And I said, 'Let me go, what the hell happened?' trying to see. But it was like the mother just came out of the car and was trying to run fast as she can, because it was an intersection," said Patel.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said the child opened the door of the vehicle before falling out. Traffic came to a halt, and Patel ran outside to see what had happened.

The sheriff's office expects the child to be okay. It is not yet confirmed whether the child was in a car seat at the time of the incident.

Authorities are working to determine the details of the incident.
