Marco Island e-bike rider dragged by golf cart, driver arrested

A man driving a golf cart was arrested after hitting a man on an e-bike and dragging him the length of a football field in Marco Island. The Collier County Sheriff's Office arrested Steven Pickett on Monday.

 

The victim, who requested to remain anonymous, shared his experience with WINK News. He described the incident as one of the scariest days of his life.

 

"I hope I don't die. That's what I said to him. I was like, 'You're gonna kill me. Please stop.' And then he didn't stop," the victim said.

 

The victim recounted that the confrontation began when Pickett, who was stopped at a red light, yelled and threatened him.

 

"This guy on a golf cart who was stopped at the red light screamed at me and threatened me, said, 'Get off your E bike on the road. I'm going to run you over,'" he said.

 

In an attempt to avoid further confrontation, the victim turned onto a different street but encountered Pickett again. He decided to take a photo of Pickett's license plate, which escalated the situation.

 

"Then the guy slammed on his brakes when he saw that I was behind him, slammed my E bike as hard as he could into his golf cart from probably 25 miles per hour to zero, he came to a complete stop, until I was slung up over his golf cart," the victim said. "I was like, 'Please stop. You're going to kill me.' He was dragging me around, and he drugged me for about 100 yards, and then I just finally fell off onto the road."

 

The victim suffered a stomach bruise, cuts on his legs, and a broken bike. Despite his injuries, he remains resilient and hopes the incident serves as a lesson to other drivers.

 

"If you hit somebody, you're going to go to jail. So share the road and don't be such a jerk," he said.

 

Pickett bonded out of Collier County Jail on Monday. Meanwhile, the victim plans to rest his bike while he recovers both physically and emotionally.
