Moore Haven school incident sparks investigation after parent joins fight

A schoolyard fight at Moore Haven Middle-High School turned into a criminal investigation after a violent incident involving students and a parent.

Emmanuel Hendrix, the school's head football coach, said his daughter, Zaria Hendrix, was attacked by two twin sisters and their mother.

"I got a phone call and it was my daughter on the line," said Hendrix. "She said dad, they jumped me."

Hendrix said he rushed to the school after receiving the call.

"I learned that two twin girls assaulted my daughter Zaria, and the parent jumped in," said Hendrix.

Hendrix filed a police report with the Glades County Sheriff's Office. He heard graphic details of the incident, but was not shown the video.

"She was being assaulted by the two girls," said Hendrix. "The mom came in, struck her and grabbed her by her hair and started pounding her head against the pavement."

Zaria suffered a concussion and has been experiencing severe headaches since the attack.

"I'm just very disheartened when I think about it, and my baby got to go through that and because no parents should have to deal with that," said Hendrix. "No, no child should have to go through not only fighting two people but to have to fight another grown adult all at one time three on one."

The school district sent a letter to parents, describing the incident as "isolated" and promising full accountability. Hendrix acknowledged the school's quick response but is concerned about the lasting trauma.

"I'm gonna wrap my arms around her and we're gonna try to do everything we can to move forward," said Hendrix.

As the investigation continues, Hendrix's focus is on his daughter's recovery. The Glades County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the investigation is active and charges are expected soon.
