Toy battery ignites fire in Collier County garbage truck

A garbage truck in Collier County recently caught fire due to a battery-powered child's toy that was placed on the curb with the battery still inside.

According to the county, the battery ignited during collection, causing the truck to dump its load onto the roadway.

No one was injured and the damage was minimal. 

Batteries should never be disposed of in trash or recycling carts as they can spark fires in collection trucks.

Residents are urged to remove batteries from toys and devices before disposal. All types of batteries should be taken to a Collier County Recycling Drop-Off Center for safe disposal.
