It's that time of year when everyone is eagerly waiting for Santa's arrival. While you wait, it's a good idea to make sure your home is safe and secure.

If you're lighting candles or a fire, ensure they're out before bedtime.

Close the blinds to keep those gift piles hidden and lock the doors. Check for any last-minute packages at your front door.

Avoid posting expensive gifts on social media as it can attract unwanted attention. Be cautious with your trash too, as boxes from pricey items can be signals to thieves.

While you're at it, change the batteries in your smoke detectors. If you don't have a carbon monoxide detector, consider adding it to your Christmas list and get one in January.
