Lawhon's Grocery in North Fort Myers reopens days after car crash

Lawhon's Grocery in North Fort Myers reopened its doors just days after a car crash forced the beloved local business to close over the weekend. The store, located at the intersection of Bayshore and Nalle Road, faced uncertainty about how long it would remain closed. However, thanks to the quick response and help from regular customers, Lawhon's is back in business.

Tammy Jackson, the manager of Lawhon’s Grocery, has been serving the North Fort Myers community for 18 years.

“They love our food, but I think they love just the atmosphere, because it is a Hometown Store,” said Jackson.

On Friday night, a car parked outside crashed through the side of the building, leaving a massive hole and forcing the store to close temporarily.

Crystal, a local resident, said, “I saw that the place was taped off, and there were cops, and I was like, 'Oh my God, what happened?' You know, I was worried. But thankfully, it wasn't too bad.”

The community quickly rallied to support the store, with repairs beginning almost immediately. Friends and regulars helped board up the damaged area, making it safe to reopen.

“They had guys there that night. And, I mean, of course they did. This place is a gold mine, and they know that the customers need them to be open,” said Crystal. “Everybody's so friendly. It's like family.”

By Monday morning, Lawhon's was ready to welcome customers again.

Ed and Beth, North Fort Myers locals, expressed their excitement. “As soon as we found out they were open, we came for breakfast,” they said. “We love it. We would get breakfast every morning and sit on the bed of the truck and eat it in the parking lot.”

Crystal also praised the store's offerings. “When you go inside, and you try the food, everything is homemade from scratch, and the girls just make it so inviting,” she said.

Lawhon’s Grocery, a neighborhood staple, has shown resilience and a strong community bond, ensuring it remains a beloved part of North Fort Myers.

The manager noted that full repairs are still underway, but they are grateful and happy to be serving the community once again.
