2025 Florida black bear hunt results announced

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced the results of the 2025 black bear hunt. 

The hunt, which followed new amendments approved by FWC Commissioners, took place within Bear Hunting Zones in four of the state's Bear Management Units.

A total of 172 permits were issued through a random drawing, allowing hunters to harvest one bear per permit. 

During the 2025 hunt, 52 bears were killed, reflecting a rate comparable to other states with similar regulations. 

FWC staff and bear response contractors checked all collected bears, and the data will guide future management strategies.

The FWC Division of Law Enforcement ensured compliance during the hunt, with increased officer engagement and education. 

Only one warning was issued for a minor violation, and no citations were given.

Regulated hunting is part of the 2019 Florida Black Bear Management Plan, aiming to manage bear populations while balancing wildlife numbers with suitable habitats.
