Immokalee fire station becomes doggie daycare, locals love new service

A former fire station in Immokalee has found a new purpose as a doggie daycare and boarding business. Firehouse Doggie Daycare and Boarding has opened its doors in the old Station 30 building on New Market Road East.

Christopher Spano, the visionary behind this unique transformation, shared his passion for animal care at a "WINK Listens" event in Immokalee.

"It's a passion of mine to take care of other animals. It's something that's much needed in the area," said Spano.

Spano realized the need for a local dog boarding facility when he was searching for one himself. Many families in the area have to travel 30 to 50 minutes for pet care, especially when heading to the airport.

"It's a convenient drop off. We offer a location pickup. We offer a door-to-door pickup," said Spano.

The community has responded positively to the new business. Spano shared that he plans to expand and give back by supporting scholarships for Immokalee High School and local fire departments.

"I really want to give back to the community, because I see the need in this community. I see the effort that these people put into their lives every day," said Spano.

Looking ahead, Spano envisions a staff of 25 employees, a full-time veterinarian, agility training, and a shelter for 40 rescue dogs.

"Nothing can touch your soul like a dog," he said.

Firehouse Doggie Daycare and Boarding is hosting an open house on Saturday, January 3, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature music, food vendors, raffles, and tours of the facility.
