Collier County community mourns after New Year's crash on State Road 82

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A deadly crash on State Road 82 near Corkscrew Road just after midnight on New Year's Day has left a community in mourning. The crash involved multiple vehicles and resulted in four fatalities, with two others sustaining injuries.

Savannah Lozada, a friend of one of the victims, Miranda Ayala, expressed her grief over the loss.

"I’ll never forget our memory," said Lozada.

Lozada spoke of Ayala’s qualities and the impact she had on those around her.

"She was an amazing mom. Her son, Marley— I prayed for him to give him strength during this tough time. And you couldn’t ask for a better person to know in your life or anybody’s life. She’s such a strong person," said Lozada.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Kia Forte was traveling eastbound on State Road 82 behind a Kia Sedona. 

According to troopers, the driver of the Kia Forte attempted to pass by moving into the westbound lanes, leading to a head-on collision with a Subaru Ascent.

The identities of the other individuals involved in the crash have not yet been released. The conditions of the two people taken to the hospital remain unknown.

This tragic event has left a lasting impact on those who knew the victims and serves as a somber reminder of the dangers present on the roads.
