Step back in time at Port Charlotte’s new vintage toy shop

There is a new toy shop in town, but this one is not about the latest trends or brand-new boxes. It is about nostalgia, memories, and the toys that defined entire generations.

Vintage Toy Traders in Port Charlotte is giving Southwest Florida a blast from the past.

Walk through the doors, and you are instantly surrounded by toys from different decades. Old My Little Ponies, tiny Polly Pockets, collector Barbies, trading cards and shelves of figures many people have not seen since childhood fill the space.

Owner Phil Bloom says some of the most popular items in the store are Transformers, G.I. Joe and Star Wars collectibles. After collecting for years, Bloom knew it was time to turn his passion into something the community could enjoy.

“This was just sitting in my garage. I knew other people also wanted cool things like this,” Bloom said.

Vintage Toy Trader is not just a place to shop. It is also a place to learn what your old toys are really worth. Bloom says many people underestimate the value of what they have tucked away at home.

“I see so many people on Facebook who have fallen for the trap where they don’t understand how much their toys are really worth,” said Bloom.

That is why the shop offers free appraisals. Anyone can bring in toys, cards or collectibles and get an honest evaluation.

One of the biggest draws in the store is Pokémon cards and video games. David Adams, who knows the Pokémon world inside and out, says the value of these cards has skyrocketed over the years.

“We have all different kinds of cards. Some that are $20 or some that are almost $100. There’s something for everyone,” Adams said.

Bloom says the best part of running the shop is watching people relive their childhood the moment they walk inside.

“People will run up to the glass cases with the biggest smiles on their faces. It makes me feel good knowing people feel good,” Bloom said.

Vintage Toy Traders is open Wednesday through Sunday, welcoming collectors, curious shoppers and anyone ready to feel like a kid again.
