Man arrested in Lehigh Acres, accused of hitting deputy with car while fleeing

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

A man was arrested Saturday in Lehigh Acres after being accused of hitting a deputy with his car while fleeing.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was patrolling in the area of Lee Boulevard and Alvin Avenue at around 10:44 p.m., when they noticed a man, later identified as Michael Jose Castilblanco Davila, 26, attempting to open the door of another vehicle in the roadway.

The deputy noted that Davila appeared to be attempting to carjack the driver of the other vehicle. After the interaction, Davila returned to his vehicle and drove away from the intersection, LCSO said.

The deputy followed the two vehicles as they drove eastbound on Lee Boulevard. When the vehicles stopped at the intersection of Lee Boulevard and Lee Street, Davila once again approached the other vehicle, LCSO said.

The deputy activated the emergency lights, stepped out of their car, and attempted to contact Davila. Davila ignored the deputy's commands, got back in his car, and drove straight at the deputy, who was hit in the legs and hips by Davila's car, LCSO said.

The deputy got back in the patrol vehicle and began to chase Davila. The deputy chased Davila to the intersection of Lee Boulevard and Gerald Avenue North, where they executed a PIT maneuver to stop Davila's vehicle, LCSO said.

The deputy then tried to place Davila under arrest, but he resisted, placing his hands underneath him. Another deputy responded to the scene and helped arrest Davila, LCSO said.

Davila faces charges of aggravated battery on specified personnel, fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and siren active, and resisting arrest without violence.
