Push to ban formaldehyde in hair products

As people prepare for their day, they are being urged to check their hair products due to a renewed push to ban formaldehyde, a chemical found in many everyday items.

The Food and Drug Administration has missed its deadline to propose banning formaldehyde in hair straightening products, with the proposed rule having an action date set for the last day of December.

This delay has frustrated many users of these products. Salon workers have been advocating for the ban since 2021. The concern with formaldehyde is its association with an increased risk of uterine fibroids, infertility and hormone-related cancers.
