FDLE investigates Fort Myers jail inmate's death

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

The Fort Myers Police Department announced on Jan. 4 that an inmate had died of apparent self-inflicted injuries.

FMPD said this happened while the inmate was in custody. It added that officers immediately initiated lifesaving measures, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator, until Lee County EMS stepped in.

It said that the inmate died in the hospital on Dec. 6.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is the lead in the investigation.
