Man arrested, accused of shooting, killing landlord in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. —

A man was arrested after being accused of shooting and killing his landlord in a Port Charlotte home on Van Buren Avenue.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home on the 23000 block of Van Buren Avenue at around 1:39 p.m.

The CCSO Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to investigate.

The investigation determined that Jordan Ruddy, 38, was in a physical altercation with his landlord, and that during the altercation, Ruddy opened fire, shooting and killing the victim, CCSO said.

Ruddy was found on the scene and arrested.

He faces charges of second-degree murder, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and failure to register as a felon.
