Red Sox host annual women's fantasy camp at JetBlue Park

Baseball fans dream of wearing their favorite team's uniform and making big league plays. For a group of over 70 women, this dream became reality at JetBlue Park during the Boston Red Sox Women's Fantasy Camp.

Women from around the world, including the northeast, Oregon, and Australia, gathered for this unique experience. Among them was Susan Presby, a lifelong Red Sox fan from New Hampshire.

"When I first came the very first year, I had, the last time I played any kind of sports was in fourth grade recess," said Presby.

Presby shared that her grandmother only watched the Red Sox and roller derby on TV.

When Presby learned about the chance to experience life as a Red Sox player, she seized the opportunity. She has returned every year for the past decade.

"Do you remember when you were a kid and you went to summer camp and you saw the same people every year and you got there and you felt so excited? That's what it's like coming here," said Presby.

A record 76 campers arrived at JetBlue Park on Wednesday for the first day of the Boston Red Sox Women's Fantasy Camp. The four-day, five-night camp offered these women a taste of the big leagues.

"We try to keep the locker room under wraps until day one. So this morning they all got to walk in, see the equipment, all the new gear and it was like, they like to call it their Christmas day," said Katie Gauger, Red Sox Fantasy Camp Director.

Campers took swings in the batting cages, participated in field drills, and learned from former Red Sox players.

"The coaches are my idols from when I used to go up to Fenway. You know it's amazing that we're friends with these guys," said Karen Adamczyk, a Red Sox Fantasy Camp player.

The camp has provided players like Presby with lasting bonds and memories.

"My second year I played at Fenway when we had our reunion game at Fenway Park. I have an RBI at Fenway Park which was probably other than when I had my daughter probably the most amazing moment in my entire life," said Presby.
