Cape Coral police chief reveals new details on quick arrest in Tio Jewelers robbery

CAPE CORAL, Fla.—The Cape Coral Police Department has unveiled new details about an armed robbery at Tio Jewelers, offering insight into how a quick response led to an arrest. 

Police Chief Anthony Sizemore highlighted a critical detail that played a pivotal role in the investigation.

The robbery was detected live on the store owner's surveillance footage, which was immediately called to the police.

"They have surveillance cameras in the store, and the spouse was at home and saw it on the phone and called us," said Sizemore.

This real-time alert set the investigation into motion and helped officers quickly respond to the scene.

Chief Sizemore described the robbery as a violent and well-planned attack, where the business owner was bound during the incident.

"We immediately went to work on this case," said Sizemore. "Developed a suspect, began tracking him, set up on the location, and I can tell you he's in custody."

The Department of Justice identified 52-year-old Ivel Sanchez Rivera as the driver of the getaway car. Authorities later discovered a gun stolen during the robbery inside his home.

WINK News spoke exclusively with Tio Jewelers co-owner Joel Ochoa, who expressed gratitude for the community's support and resilience.

"We have a lot of friends like community, and we appreciate, you know what we get here, and we will continue to grow. It doesn't matter. I mean, don't gonna stop us," said Ochoa.

The Department of Justice reported that two additional suspects remain at large. Rivera, facing up to 27 years in prison for conspiracy and firearm charges, is scheduled to appear in a Fort Myers court next week.
