Marco Island police chief cleared in gun training records investigation

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.—The Marco Island Police Chief has been cleared in a criminal investigation, according to a report from the State Attorney’s Office.  

The City of Marco Island confirmed the report with WINK News.

Chief Tracy Frazzano and other officers faced accusations of falsifying gun training records to meet accreditation standards. Former Marco Island lieutenant Matt Gallup claimed he discovered falsified firearm training and certification records.

WINK News spoke with Gallup, the former lieutenant who filed a defamation lawsuit, sharing his story with Anchor Chris Cifatte in November.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement did not recommend filing charges, and the state attorney has closed the investigation.

The lawsuit is still ongoing, and WINK News will provide updates as they become available.
