Suspected drunk driver accused of crashing into several cars on Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Deputies said a suspected drunk driver crashed into multiple vehicles on Bayshore Road, leaving two people injured and one woman thankful to have survived.

Suzanne Blay, who was slightly swiped by the driver, recounted the incident.

"He was going at least 60, 65 miles an hour. He swerved in front of me. I was in the right lane. He swerved in the middle lane, and he hit a car, and then he hit 5 or 6 more vehicles, and he rear-ended all of them," Blay said.

Surveillance video showed Blay sitting in traffic when a silver Acura scraped her car before smashing into seven other cars. Deputies identified the driver as Michael Hill, 36, who was seen limping away in the footage.

"He came out and jumped out, and he was, he was staggering, but he was hurt, too," Blay said. "I yelled to some of the men that had come out of their vehicles that somebody needs to go get him because he's running away from the situation," Blay said.

Deputies later apprehended Hill after witnesses reported him running down Hart Road. He was taken to the hospital, where it was determined his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

Blay's car emerged with only a tire skid on the bumper, but she expressed her gratitude. "He flew by me. I don't know, it had to be an angel of God that was with me," Blay said. "There's no way I should have survived that."

Two other individuals were taken to local hospitals, with one reporting back and neck pain and the other suffering a broken collarbone.
