Manasota Key Road reopens after hurricane repairs in Sarasota County

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Manasota Key Road in Sarasota County is now open to traffic following temporary repairs. The road, located approximately 2,000 feet north of Blind Pass Park, required significant repairs after being damaged by hurricanes.

The repairs included the removal of hurricane debris, establishment of a new base, shoreline hardening, asphalt pavement, and pavement markings.

The road officially opened on Saturday, Jan. 10, though intermittent lane closures may still occur as additional work is completed. Drivers are urged to use caution and obey no-parking signs in the area.

A portion of the road was washed out by hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. In response, the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners directed staff in March 2025 to construct a temporary roadway while they continue the design and permitting process for a permanent solution.

Construction of the temporary road began in the fall of 2025 to restore access between the north and south ends of Manasota Key.

Community members can look forward to a more permanent solution as plans progress, ensuring safe and reliable access along Manasota Key Road.
