ALDI grocery store to open in Immokalee come Summer 2026

IMMOKALEE, Fla. — ALDI confirmed to WINK News that its Immokalee location is moving forward and is expected to open by this summer.

The former Winn-Dixie on Lake Trafford Road, a staple for many Immokalee families, is set to be replaced by an ALDI. However, the transition has encountered some challenges.

Collier County records from December 2025 indicate that the permit application to convert the former Winn-Dixie building has been reviewed and returned for corrections. The developer must address fire, mechanical, and building code issues before moving forward.

WINK News spent the day in Immokalee, speaking with locals who shared their difficulties with relying on smaller stores for groceries due to higher prices and limited selection.

Juana Vasquez, an Immokalee resident, expressed the inconvenience of having to travel out of town for groceries because of high prices at smaller stores.

"I have to go all the way to Walmart because everything here is costly, things like meat, chicken, anything meat-related," said Vasquez.

Another resident, Roman Mireles, highlighted the transportation challenges for many in the community.

"There are a lot of people who don't have vehicles, so I get a lot of people asking me, 'Hey, can I get a ride to Walmart? Can I get a ride to Walmart?' It's because they don't have this grocery here anymore, so they want me to take them to Walmart, and I help them out," said Mireles.

As the community awaits the store's opening, many hope it will provide a more convenient shopping option.
