Buckingham residents frustrated by deep potholes on private Loring Way road

Residents in Lee County are voicing concerns about the condition of Loring Way, a road near Palm Beach Boulevard and Buckingham Road. They say the potholes are dangerous for drivers.

WINK News received multiple tags on Facebook about the issue and investigated further. It turns out Loring Way is not a county-maintained road.

Chris Turasky, who lives near Loring Way, avoids driving on the road unless he's in a vehicle with higher clearance.

"I avoid it unless I'm driving the other car that sits up higher," said Turasky. "I don't drive through here."

The road is filled with jagged pavement, broken asphalt, and deep potholes. Turasky shared his strategy for navigating the area.

"I don't drive through here. So if we do, we come out around the manhole and then circle around, because it'll tear your car up. It'll bottom out," said Turasky.

To assess the extent of the damage, WINK News measured the potholes.

"So this one here is about six inches deep," said Turasky.

He noted that some potholes are even deeper.

"Six inches this one here, you're probably looking about eight, seven and a half to eight. Yeah, that's deep," said Turasky.

According to Lee County, Loring Way is privately owned. Public records indicate AutoZone Stores LLC is responsible for its maintenance. However, attempts to get a comment from AutoZone workers were met with a request to contact their regional manager, who has not yet responded.

Turasky expressed his desire for the road to be repaired soon.

"Just be nice if they get it fixed so we can actually use the road again," said Turasky.

Currently, no repair plan is in place. Lee County's code enforcement has issued a violation against the property owner for failing to maintain the road. WINK News continues to seek a response from AutoZone's regional office.
