Lee County seeks community input for Lakes Park playground renovation

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Lee County Parks and Recreation plans to renovate the train playground at Lakes Park this summer and is seeking community input to guide the improvements.

Christine Bailey, west district manager for Lee County Parks and Recreation, said, "What we are doing is getting feedback from them so we can give them what they want in the long run."

A survey has been posted to ask residents what they might like added to the park, with options including swings, climbing areas, a zip line and slides.

Valerie Morehouse, a seasonal resident, suggested, "The swings are kind of offset, so maybe combining everything if you have more than one child."

Barbara Dickinson, a Fort Myers resident, said, "I would like to see a little more protection on those open areas."

Bailey noted that the size and theme of the park will stay the same, but they are looking to upgrade the existing equipment.

Addison Mobley, a park visitor, commented, "The swings are a little outdated. They pinch the kids' skin a lot."

Residents have until Feb. 1 to fill out the survey. Work is expected to begin in the summer.
