Collier County student faces charges for drugs, weapons on campus

NAPLES - A Naples High School student is facing multiple charges after a tip led Youth Relations Deputies to drugs and weapons on campus.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, a 15-year-old student is charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

During the search, Deputies found suspected marijuana inside the student’s backpack.

Authorities also say a box cutter with a large razor blade and a straight-edge razor were found on the student during the investigation.

Naples High School addressed the incident in a letter to parents, stating, "All students should be aware that having weapons on school property, including in parked vehicles on campus and on school buses, will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action."

Jacqueline Winter, a Collier County parent, shared her thoughts on the situation.

"I feel like it's hard to be a parent of all these children and always be on top of everybody," said Winter. "But I feel like sometimes parents should maybe monitor their children a little bit better. But if you're a parent who works like hard, like I do, and you're not always there, when your children, you know, leave for school, you just hope they're, they're doing the right thing."

The Collier County Sheriff's Office emphasized that school safety remains a top concern and urged anyone who sees or hears something suspicious to call 911.
