Florida governor candidate proposes 'sin tax' on OnlyFans creators

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

OnlyFans, a website that allows users to create and make money from their content, is at the center of a proposal by Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback, who suggests a 50% "sin tax" on its content creators to fund teacher salaries and improve school lunches.

Sophie Rain, a well-known content creator on the site, said, "There are so many creators on this platform that do this job because they're struggling."

Fishback said, "The only way you can make a living, according to the platform, is by selling images, nude images of your body on the internet."

He also addressed the predominantly male subscribers, stating, "We're going to take care of them as well and my message to the men predominantly subscribing to this content is cut it out."

When asked about taxing strip club owners, Fishback responded, "Well, all the options are on the table."

The proposal has sparked strong reactions.

Leaha Lana said, "It seems a little misogynistic. I think it's a valid form of work for people. It's not really fair to charge it so excessively."

Julia Flores questioned the fairness of the tax, comparing it to a sin tax, "Like cigarettes, you get a charge for buying it. You don't charge the store for selling it."

Louie Cauling supports the tax, saying, "Having the tax go to a good place, not just in their pockets, especially the teachers, more than ever. I think that is good."

Reports show demand for OnlyFans is growing, with Florida having a significant number of content viewers.
