Articles of impeachment filed against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem

Seventy lawmakers are backing new articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Democrat Robin Kelly introduced the articles, claiming Noem is obstructing justice, violating public trust and self-dealing, which is abusing power for a personal benefit.

Kelly is an Illinois representative. She cited recent ICE operations across the country as one reason for trying to remove Noem from office.

"Secretary Noem has brought her reign of terror to the Chicago land area, New Orleans, Charlotte, Durham, and communities north to south to east to west," Kelly said.

The representative introduced the articles Wednesday alongside other cosponsors. She said Noem has directed federal agents to arrest people without warrants, which she used as evidence that Noem is violating public trust.

Then, regarding the self-dealing claim, Kelly says Noem is guilty of misusing $200 million of taxpayer money to fund an ICE recruitment ad campaign.

For that campaign, the articles of impeachment allege that Noem bypassed a normal bidding process, awarding the contract to a firm called Strategy Group, which Kelly says is run by a close friend and DHS co-worker of Noem.

There are 70 members of Congress cosponsoring these articles of impeachment.

"Secretary Noem has called my impeachment efforts silly. I want to tell her right now, Secretary Noem, you have violated your oath of office, and there will be consequences. I am watching you. Members of Congress are watching you. The American people, most importantly, are watching you. And most of all, we are not liking what we're seeing. If you believe impeachment is silly, then you are not taking your job or our Constitution seriously," Kelly said.
