Burn ban active in Collier County, violators face $15k fine

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.—Collier County has implemented a burn ban effective January 16, 2026, due to extreme drought conditions.

The ban, authorized by the Board of County Commissioners, prohibits the open burning of trash and yard waste. This decision followed consultations with the Collier County Emergency Management Department, Florida Forest Service, Collier County Fire Chiefs’ Association, and Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Recent dry weather, combined with a forecast of increased wind and low humidity, has heightened the risk of wildfires. The county has experienced numerous wildfire events in past dry seasons, which have threatened homes and forced road closures.

The ban applies to all unincorporated areas but exempts commercial agricultural burning and certain industrial activities. Fireworks and other incendiary devices are prohibited, although outdoor grills and smokers are allowed if properly attended.

Violations causing damage can result in fines up to $15,000. The ban will stay in effect until further notice.
