Cape Coral police on the hunt for suspect after assault near Miramar Street

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral police are still searching for the person responsible for an assault on Thursday.

Witnesses say a man threatened someone with a gun near Miramar Street. Gulf Coast News spoke with people who said this fight sparked a massive police search.

"I see this guy, this white gentleman, is holding a gun, waving it in some other guy's face," said Joshua Vaughn.

Joshua Vaughn watched a man smack another man, then point a gun at him.

Shortly after, at least half a dozen police officers searched along Miramar Street to look for the suspect. They brought in a helicopter, K-9s, and drones to assist in the search. Neighbors were also told to stay inside.

Gulf Coast News also spoke with John Bonvardo, who thinks he had a run-in with the suspect Thursday. He says he even pointed a gun at him.

"I heard somebody out in the trashcans that the cops were looking for, around probably 10:30 a.m. The guy had come back for the gun...I had a shotgun on him, but I think after he realized that I wasn't really going to kill him, he started running on down the street," said John Bonvardo.

Twenty-Four hours later, residents remain fearful, hoping police find the suspect.

"I've seen arguing, I've seen fist fights that, that happen there, but nothing with a gun, especially that close," said Vaughn.

Cape Coral Police confirmed the victim and suspect know each other.
