Fort Myers diners face chilly weather as temperatures drop into the 30s

The cold weather in downtown Fort Myers is making dining out a chilly experience. Despite the drop in temperature, some visitors are unfazed.

Julie Corazza, a resident of LaBelle, said, "It's freezing as far as I'm concerned."

"It's the wind," she added.

On Thursday night, the wind chill was the main factor affecting the temperature. Across southwest Florida, temperatures were dropping into the 30s, with the wind chill making it feel about five degrees colder. This is not something Floridians are used to.

"Today, it's freezing," said Corazza.

As temperatures fall, outdoor dining options decrease.

Emily Hamburgers, the general manager of Sip & Sizzle, said, "We're trying to accommodate and keep as many guests indoors we can."

Hamburgers explained that flexibility is crucial at Sip & Sizzle.

"We have heaters to keep them warm. Think there's even some blankets left for New Year's. We can get them to bundle up," she said.

Heather Mazzotta, a tourist, shared her perspective.

"We feel great because at home, it's 30 degrees, so this is still very warm for us right now, and the heater is doing a great job," said Mazzotta.

Locals have their own methods to stay warm.

"I'm gonna have a coffee with some Baileys," Corazza said. "I mean, that warms you right up."

"It typically does," she added.

Whether you're a local seeking extra warmth or a visitor from up north, restaurants in Fort Myers are doing everything possible to keep diners cozy this weekend.
