Proposal to bolster religious expression in schools advances in Florida

A proposal to strengthen religious expression in Florida public schools is moving forward at the Capitol, aiming to prevent discrimination against students, parents, or staff based on religious viewpoints, including prayer, coursework and clothing.

Democrats have raised concerns about whether the protections would apply equally to all faiths, while sponsors of the measure said the proposal would include everyone, including atheists.

The proposal must clear additional committees before it can appear on the November ballot.
