Fort Myers police arrest man in connection to multi-state fraud scheme

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

The Fort Myers Police Department arrested a suspect connected to a multi-jurisdictional fraud and cash mule scheme involving large sums of U.S. currency shipped through local retail locations.

FMPD arrested Harsh Rajeshbhai Varsani, 25, and charged him in connection to the fraud scheme. They add that the investigation remains ongoing across multiple jurisdictions.

FMPD says that their investigation began on Oct. 31 when they assisted an out-of-state agency after a fraud victim was deceived into mailing cash to a CVS in Fort Myers. Employees flagged the shipment as suspicious, secured the package and officers took custody of $10,970 in U.S. currency.

FMPD says that through surveillance footage, witness statements and digital evidence, detectives identified a suspect who attempted to retrieve multiple cash shipments using aliases and fake identification. They add that the suspect was linked to similar packages sent by fraud victims from multiple states.

Officers recovered a total of $45,270 in U.S. currency connected to the scheme and say they identified additional potential victims.
