Teen accused of firing gun at Port Charlotte Waffle House

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. —

A teenager was arrested on Jan. 17 after being accused of firing a gun outside of a Port Charlotte Waffle House.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a Waffle House on Kings Highway in reference to reports of a suspect who had fired a gun.

Deputies learned that Gavin Ohle, 17, had been inside the restaurant and was being loud and vulgar, CCSO said.

Employees asked Ohle to leave, causing Ohle to become irate and throw a chair. CCSO said that at one point, as Ohle was leaving the restaurant with another person, the other individual had to wrap Ohle in a "bear hug" to hold him back.

Ohle then broke free and pulled a gun out of his waistband and fired a shot. Nobody was hit by the gunshot, and Ohle left the restaurant, CCSO said.

While investigating the scene at the Waffle House, deputies learned that Ohle had been stabbed and sustained a non-life-threatening injury following an altercation at a residence on Ruston Circle in Englewood.

Ohle was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was released into law enforcement custody after being cleared.

Ohle faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

"When I look at this young man, the only word I can think of is 'troubled,'" Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said. "I don't know what’s happened in his life to lead him to this kind of behavior, but it absolutely will not be tolerated in Charlotte County. I am thankful that no one was hurt by his recklessness and appreciative of my team for their ongoing efforts to sort this whole mess out."
