Teen arrested after reportedly firing gun outside Port Charlotte Waffle House

A teenager was arrested after deputies say he fired a gun outside a Waffle House in Port Charlotte late Saturday night.

Deputies responded to the incident just after 11 p.m. at the Waffle House on 810 Kings Highway. The teen, 17, was reportedly causing a disturbance inside the restaurant.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said that when employees asked him to leave, he became irate and threw a chair. As he exited with another male, he was briefly restrained but managed to free himself and fired a gun once in the parking lot. No one was injured.

Detectives investigating the scene discovered that the teen had been stabbed earlier following an altercation at a residence on Ruston Circle in Englewood. He suffered a non-life-threatening wound and was treated at a local hospital before being taken into custody.

The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing. Authorities are working to understand the circumstances leading to these events.

"When I look at this young man, the only word I can think of is ‘troubled,'" said Sheriff Bill Prummell. "I don’t know what’s happened in his life to lead him to this kind of behavior, but it absolutely will not be tolerated in Charlotte County. I am thankful that no one was hurt by his recklessness and appreciative of my team for their ongoing efforts to sort this whole mess out."

CCSO told us that they currently do not have information on how the teen came into possession of the gun.
