The United Way of Collier and the Keys announced the schedule for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program for the 2025 tax season.
The program offers free tax filing assistance to individuals and families earning $67,000 or less in 2025.
Tiffani Mensch, UWCK President and CEO, emphasized the importance of helping ALICE neighbors, which stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.
"These individuals and families are hardworking – often juggling two or three jobs to provide for their families – yet still don’t earn enough to afford basic necessities. Our VITA volunteers provide free tax preparation and help ensure they maximize their refund,” said Mensch.
Last tax season, the VITA program generated more than $384,624 in tax refunds for local residents. This year, the program expanded with more volunteers and extended hours.
Chuck Maggio, a VITA volunteer, highlighted the gratitude of those who use the service.
"Everyone who comes in is incredibly grateful for this service. Most have simple returns, but without VITA, they could spend up to $300 to have their taxes prepared," said Maggio.
Appointments are required and can be made online. Flyers with information in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole are available for download.
The VITA program will be available every Wednesday from Febr. 4 to April 15, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the United Way of Collier and the Keys Office, 9015 Strada Stell Court, Suite 204, Naples, FL 34109.
United Way is also partnering with First Horizon Bank to offer free tax services on Feb. 14, 21, and 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at First Horizon Bank, 5247 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, FL 34116.
For those attending, a list of required documents includes a valid government-issued photo ID, Social Security card or ITIN letter, previous year's tax return, and various tax forms like W-2s and 1099s.
The program aims to support community members by maximizing their refunds and alleviating financial burdens.
