Bonita Springs approves Seagate Revana Lakes development project

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. —

The Bonita Springs City Council has approved the Revana Lakes development project, which will transform a 204-acre plot of land into a residential and commercial area, expanding the city limits by approximately 90 acres.

Colin Raynor, a Bonita Springs resident, expressed concerns about the rapid development, saying, "There is way too much building going on without any thought to the infrastructure."

In contrast, fellow resident Gary Lats supported the expansion, stating, "The community can’t stand still, you’ll see some great improvements."

The Seagate Development Group plans to convert the wetlands and groundwater resource land into an urban fringe community zone, allowing for the construction of 299 homes and retail spaces. However, Raynor cautioned, "There’s certain areas that can’t be built on."

Susan Agller, another resident, reminisced about the area's past, saying, "I think we have to keep it the way it is, just keep it old Florida," reflecting her preference for how Bonita Springs was a decade ago.

The council's decision, which passed with a 5-2 vote, changes the zoning from a density reduction/groundwater resource designation to the city's urban fringe development zone.

The decision for the annexation of 90 acres and zoning designation was passed unanimously. The first development order is expected to be placed in April.
